Why Ceramic Coatings?

Ceramic Coatings have many benefits, and other than a little extra care when washing, there are no down sides to getting one. To Protect your new car with a Ceramic Coating is one of the smartest decisions you can make after choosing your vehicle. How do they help you maintain a 'like-new' finish to your vehicles paint work for years to come?

Environmental Protection

Ceramic coatings seal in your paint work under an additional layer of protection. This stops the oxidizing effects that our harsh environment has on the paint. If you have driven around Nelson long enough you will have seen peeling clear coat, and faded paint work. Ceramic coatings reduce this from happening to as little as possible.

Effortless Cleaning

When you're no longer battling caked in dirt, cleaning your vehicle can be a joy rather than a chore. The slicker the coating on your vehicle, the more water rolls straight off. This reduces how much dirt clings to your vehicle, creating a sort of self cleaning effect that reduces time and effort.

Showroom Shine

Because these coatings can be self cleaning, reduce friction when cleaning, and seal the paintwork, this all adds up to paintwork that can remain shiny for many many years. UV damage which oxidizes paint, and scratches from washing are the two biggest causes of loss of shine.

So Why Choose Glossworks for Your Ceramic Coating?

There are many companies out there all selling the "same thing". But buyer beware, many coatings are relabeled products from other companies with 'amazing' claims. Many places have to resort to under handed and high pressure sales techniques. So why trust us?

What is the Process, and What Can I Expect on the Day?

1

Initial Consultation & Meeting

We will generally need to meet with you prior to work. We want to know what your expectations are as far as scratch or scuff removal if needed, the length of the coating life you want, if maintenance is going to be an issue, and if we are the right people to help you achieve your goals.

Pro Tip: Even brand new vehicles have scuffs and scratches, so some scuff removal may be needed, but we will always discuss your expectations, not ours.

2

Arrival & Decontamination

We arrive, all prepped and ready to go. We start with a full wash of the vehicle to remove dirt and road related grime. After washing we do further decontamination removing road tar, brake dust and other contamination that does not get removed with washing.

Pro Tip: Because we feel this is a basic service to all ceramic coatings, there is no extra charge for this.

3

Paint Correction & Polishing

Polishing (If needed). If you see the little scuffs, scratches, or 'love-marks' and want them gone, then is where we work to remove those. Using the latest compounds, polishers, buffing pads, and tools we slowly and gently shave down the paint until the scuffs are reduced, or removed.

Pro Tip: It's important to note that polishing does remove very minor amounts of your vehicles clear coat.

4

Ceramic Coating Application

Using the top of the line coating of your choice, your car gets its coating. After all the prep work, sometimes taking most of a day, the coating may only take an hour or two. The coating application is carefully done with continuous inspection to ensure perfection.

Pro Tip: A confined space, like a garage, is needed to ensure the coating is applied correctly. This cannot be done outside.

5

Ready to Drive Away

With Gtechniq coatings you will be good to drive away the next day. With C6 you can drive away almost as soon as I've packed up and left.

6

Follow Up Service

To show you our commitment to you and your vehicle, we offer a free follow up clean. This gives us another chance to check our work, ensure you're happy, and show you the best ways to maintain your coating throughout its working life.

IMPORTANT: Your vehicle cannot be washed for 4-7 days after the coating is applied, depending on the coating chosen.

FAQ for Ceramic Coatings Nelson

What's the difference between 9H and 10H hardness in ceramic coatings?

The H-scale measures the hardness of the coating. 10H is harder than 9H, offering increased scratch resistance and durability. However, both provide excellent protection for your vehicle. Read our detailed comparison of 9H vs 10H ceramic coatings to understand what these ratings actually mean for your vehicle's protection in the real world.

Ceramic Coatings vs Graphene Coatings?

Both offer excellent protection. Ceramic coatings are well-established with proven long-term performance. Graphene coatings are newer and show promising results in some areas that would make them excellent choices. But many of these benefits are not needed in NZ, with the 'graphene' aspect having not yet proven reliable or long lasting for us to start offering them. We offer ceramic coatings due to their proven track record and superior overall protection. Read our professional comparison of ceramic vs graphene coatings to understand why ceramic, without graphene, remains our top recommendation.

How long does the ceramic coating application process take?

The process typically takes at least a day, depending on your vehicle's condition and the coating chosen. We'll provide a more accurate timeline after our initial inspection for your specific vehicle.

Will ceramic coating eliminate the need for washing my car?

While ceramic coating can significantly reduce the frequency of washing needed, it doesn't eliminate it at all. Your car will stay cleaner for longer and be much easier to clean when needed, but to maintain the coatings life, and its self cleaning ability, regular maintenance cleaning is still needed. Not needing to clean you vehicle after coating is just one of many myths about coatings. Read our guide debunking common ceramic coating myths to learn what coatings can and can't do.

Will ceramic coating make my car scratch-proof?

Ceramic coatings provide excellent scratch resistance against very minor scratches and swirl marks, especially from cleaning, but they're not scratch-proof. They can protect against everyday hazards like bird droppings, and the occasional brush up with a bush, maybe even reduce minor stone chips, but won't prevent major impacts, or deep scratches from keys or car doors, and isn't sold as protecting against stone chips. Learn more about ceramic coating scratch resistance to set realistic expectations.

Can ceramic coating be applied to a used car?

Absolutely! We can apply ceramic coating to both new and used vehicles. For used cars, we may need to do more preparatory work to ensure the best results, and this will naturally increase the cost, but even if your vehicle is scuffed and scratched and you don't want/need it polished, a coating is still ideal and the paint does not need to be perfect. Check out this Blog post that looks at some of the reasons that Ceramic coating any vehicle is important.

Is ceramic coating worth the investment?

Yes, especially for those who value their vehicle's appearance and want long-term protection. It saves time and money on maintenance in the long run and we feel it helps maintain your car's resale value often paying for itself when you sell it.
